Tomato 'Silvery Fir Tree'

An exceptional heirloom that ripens early and produces heavy crops on incomparably beautiful plants. Fire engine red fruit average 2-3 inches across with a slightly flattened shape and a very pleasant, tangy taste. The compact, determinate plants have delicate, ferny foliage and make elegant container specimens. Russian origins. 58 days.

To grow in a container, be sure to use fresh potting soil and feed every few weeks with a liquid vegetable fertilizer. It also makes a great garden plant for full sun. Amended with compost and a good organic vegetable fertilizer that is not too high in nitrogen. Use stakes to support these heavily bearing plants if necessary.

Harvest when fruit are fully colored and slightly soft to the touch. The flavor is very sweet and rich. They can be used fresh in salads or sandwiches, made into salsa or pasta sauce.
