Canary Melon 'Tweety'

Popular in Asia and Europe, these bright yellow melons have a smooth rind and a, pale green to white flesh. Tweety is an early maturing canary melon that produces 4 to 6 lb. juicy, crisp fruits; the sweet flavor has undertones of cantaloupe and tropical fruit. Stores well after harvest. Disease resistant plants.

Plant in full sun in soil amended with compost and a good vegetable fertilizer. Melon plants need about 3-4 feet of space between them.

Melons taste significantly better when vine ripened, so harvesting at the right time is very important. Canary melons should be firm, smooth to the touch, and have bright yellow color with no hint of green. The stem area should be slightly soft, and fruit will have a delicate scent. Fruits may ripen off the vine a little, but never develop peak flavor if harvested too early.
