Artichoke 'Green Globe'

The original improved artichoke, Green Globe flowers in early summer. The flower buds are deep green with a light purple tinge. A good harvest of 3-4 heads can be expected throughout the summer. They are 3-5 inches in diameter and have wonderfully thick, flavorful hearts. Proven to be the most hardy and remain productive for at least 5 years.

Plant Artichokes in full sun in soil amended with plenty of compost and a good complete fertilizer at planting time. Fertilize every spring as weather starts to warm up. Water regularly.

To harvest, cut flowers before they start to open. The smaller, immature artichokes are the most tender. Flowers can even be left on the plant to bloom all the way. The showy purple centers look interesting in a garden landscape and can also be dried.
