Echinacea purpurea 'Starlight'

Starlight's 3" flowers have a brightly colored rosy petals held around orange centers. These vigorous blooming plants are sensational in mid-summer garden. Echinacea has gained wide acceptance as a therapeutic herb. Its leaves and roots are processed as an effective immune system tonic to ward off and ease symptoms of colds and flu.

Plant in full sun to partial shade. Echinacea will grow in ordinary garden soil but will be most vigorous and bloom the longest in soil that is amended with compost and a good all purpose fertilizer.

Echinacea is a hardy perennial. The leaves will die back in the winter then come back more full each new season. It is helpful to put a thick mulch around the roots to protect them from cold and erosion during the winter months. The flowers make nice bouquets, just cut them with a long stem and put immediately in water.
