‘Japanese Black Trifele’ yields prolific quantities of 6 oz. fruit that looks like a beautiful mahogany-colored Bartlett pear with greenish shoulders. Very tasty flesh with a meaty core that produces luscious fruit all summer long. A work of art sliced out on a plate and a wonderful flavor with rich and complex flavors. The Black Trifele is one of the blackest varieties available and is resistant to cracking.
Plant in full sun in soil that has been amended with compost and a good organic fertilizer that is not too high in nitrogen. Space plants 3 feet apart. Support these 5 foot tall, heavily bearing plants with a sturdy tomato cage.
Harvest when fruits are slightly soft to the touch, fully colored up and the shoulders are a little green.
