Sunflower 'Chianti'

Chianti is the deepest red sunflower with wine-red velvet petals with gold flecks. Flowers are 3-4" across on 4-5 ft plants. Multiple branched and purple-stemmed, it's dramatic in the garden. Makes a nice cut flower.

Plant sunflowers in full sun. They will grow in ordinary garden soil, but will grow biggest and bloom best in soil amended with compost and a good fertilizer. Space plants 10-12 inches apart.

To harvest flowers, cut them with a long stem just after they are fully open for the longest vase life. They are nice by themselves or mixed with other brightly colored flowers like Zinnias.
